The Improv Commandos (sm) began in the fall of 1999 as a spin-off of the Theatre of Western Springs. Our cast members range in age from 20s to 70s. Most of us have taken improv classes at Second City, the Annoyance Theatre, Improv Olympics, and Comedy Sportz, in addition to occasional workshops at TWS over the years.
Working with suggestions from our audience for relationships, occupations, lines of dialogue, situations and themes, we create a fun, interactive show.
We perform age-appropriate shows, performing before audiences of pre-teens, teens and adults. Sometimes an adult situation may arise, but we do not rely on four-letter words to get a laugh.
We try to adhere to Second City's maxim:
Play to the top of your intelligence.
Our 90-minute shows consist of about 12 to 15 improv games similar to those seen on TV's Whose Line is it Anyway? (tm)
